CVP Helps the Tree Fund Illustrate Career Path in Arboriculture for Students

Red Bank, New Jersey | April 14th, 2008

Each production at CVP begins as a client’s challenge. Sometimes that challenge is technical, sometimes creative, and at times, both. The Tree Fund, an organization that identifies and funds programs to advance knowledge in the field of arboriculture, came to us with a particular vision and a specific description of this production’s main audience.CVP was able to meet all the technical needs of this project, as well as the creative needs of our client.

A particular challenge faced by this non-profit organization is encouraging students and young people to pursue arboriculture as a profession and career. In recent years enrollment has declined as young people opt for career paths in high technology. Reaching out to America’s youth early and educating them about the career possibilities as arborists has become and important objective.

Custom Video Productions was enlisted by The Tree Fund to aid them in creating a media presentation that would appeal to young people making career choices. As a script for this DVD was being written, careful attention was paid to establishing the criteria that draw people to arboriculture as a career, showing a well defined blue print of just how one attains a career in arboriculture, and demonstrating skills needed, equipment used, and jobs available in both urban and rural settings. With a finished script in hand, CVP moved into production.

Hiring young talent to narrate this production on camera was key. CVP interviewed scores of actors and actresses who could energetically, yet effectively relay the technical information that had to come across to the young audience. While the talent geared up for their part in the production, the shooting of outdoor, technical footage was almost complete. Location scouting for the outdoor video footage began, and a number of sites were chosen throughout New Jersey and New York State. Frank Farrell and the CVP crew logged many hours of videotape capturing tree climbing, proper pruning techniques, line cleaning, bucket work, and landscape management, building an interesting perspective of modern arboriculture. This footage also contained images of demonstrations of various technical equipment, structural evaluation, and safety procedures.

Using the blue screen in-house at CVP’s Red Bank studio location, the young talent was videotaped and the editing began. Fusing outdoor footage, the actors’ narration and a great soundtrack, the production moved toward completion. A rough cut reviewed by The Tree Fund led to a creative, informative and motivating final product.

CVP completed the duplication and creative packaging of 10,000 Tree Fund DVDs and the finished production was ready to be used at local, regional, and national trade shows, career fairs, and speaker presentations. This effective marketing tool written, produced, edited, mastered and duplicated by Custom Video Productions will help The Tree Fund educate and illustrate a career path in arboriculture and hopefully draw new talent into this vital field.
